It all started with the the Chisholm Trail Museum. Adam, the director, was excited about his new project and his excitement is always infectious to me. Baseball has never been one of my "things" - heck, I really don't get involved in sports unless it concerns livestock, or croquet mallets. But when he pulled out this photo of the 1910 Hennessy Oklahoma team and started telling me about Carl Mays, he had my attention. "Its too bad we can't find an original uniform," he said. "We can make a reproduction," I replied. I get myself into alot of projects in the heat of shared enthusiasms! ;)
What the item is: 1920 NY Yankee's baseball cap
The Challenge: Blue
Fabric:Blue Chalk stripe cotton, navy blue wool flannel

Notions:One covered button, buckram for brim
How historically accurate is it? 75% ? The shape is right, they were factory making these at this time so machine sewing is ok. I WISH I could find the proper wool flannel in the stripe.
Hours to complete: about an hour
First worn: EVERYONE has been trying it on that sees it. Me, daughters, hubby, museum director...
Total cost: from the stash- but probably about $5
